State of Bahawalpur: The State of Bahawalpur was established in the 18th century. The Abbasi dynasty, originally from the Sindh province, migrated to the area and founded the state. In 1802, Nawab Mohammad Bahawal Khan I became the first ruler of Bahawalpur State and established the city of Bahawalpur as its capital.


British Rule: The State of Bahawalpur maintained a semi-autonomous status under British colonial rule. It signed a treaty with the British East India Company in 1833, which ensured its autonomy while recognizing British suzerainty. Bahawalpur State continued to exist as an independent princely state within British India until the partition of India in 1947.


Independence and Integration into Pakistan: After the partition of India, Bahawalpur State, along with other princely states, had the option to join either India or Pakistan. Nawab Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi V, the ruler at that time, decided to accede to Pakistan. On October 3, 1947, Bahawalpur State became part of Pakistan and was later merged into the province of West Pakistan.


Cultural Significance: Bahawalpur has a rich cultural heritage and is known for its architectural landmarks. The Noor Mahal, a magnificent palace built in the 19th century, is one of the city's iconic structures. The city is also famous for its traditional arts and crafts, including pottery, embroidery, and camel-skin products.
